A Stepwise Guide to Create Blogs With Joomla

Page history last edited by Adam Mathewz 3 months, 4 weeks ago

Here are the steps to create a blog using Joomla:

1. Create Categories.

The first thing you must do when working with Joomla is to create categories that will help you to sort and assemble all your content.

Click on Content. Choose and click on the "Categories" option that you will find in your Joomla administrator. Click on the "New" option and click on the "Blog" category to create a new content-category to organize your pieces.

Now, you can also create and add subcategories if you are looking forward to having a jam-packed blog.

2. Creating the Menu Link-

Next, you will need to create a menu link so that your visitors can get to see your blog (category). Go to Menus and click on the Main Menu or any menu according to your preference. Click on the "New" option. Type in "Blog" in the "Menu Title" area. Click on the blue "Select" button that you will see, to get to "Menu-Item-Type." Click on "Category Blog," followed by a click on "Blog" in the "Choose a Category" tab/field.

You could also make the following changes to your Blog Category. Click on the "Blog Layout" tab and set the "Leading Articles" field to "10". It means that at least ten of your articles/blogs will get a full-width display across the entire page.

3. Creating the Articles

Now, you can compose the first articles for your blog. Go to the "Content" option and click on "Articles. "Create materials that are present in the "Blog" category or any of the subcategories.

Now, you can go to the front of your site and click on the "Blog" link. You will get to see that several of your new posts are live on your blog page.

You could be wanting to remove a few features from your page; e.g., you may want to delete the "Hits" text. For doing this, you will need to go back to the "Menus" tab and edit your "Blog" menu link. You can now change and alter these features under the "Options" tab.

4. Adding a Comments extension-

If you want a real blog, you have a platform where you can collect user opinions and reviews via comments. Joomla does not come with a native-comments feature. Hence, you will have to find and install an extension separately.

Joomlashack uses the extension called "CComment," and it works wonders. If you want to avoid spam, the best thing you can do is to-

  • Allow your registered users to post any comments they wish.

  • Bar all comments coming from unregistered users to enable moderation.

Comment eases the process of making moderation by sending email notifications to you. Within these emails, you will find a one-click link to approve/ remove/ view every comment.

5. Adding Links to Your Social Accounts-

Now, you will need to add certain social-media features to your blog. You will need to use icons that will link your social media accounts. You will be using the Joomlashack extension that is known as the Easy Social Icons.

You have to download and install the Easy Social Icons. Go to Extensions, followed by Modules and click on JS Easy Social Icons. Type in the URLs for your social media accounts. You can make this module appear only on your Blog menu link under the "Assignments" tab. Set your module to "Published." Navigate to the front of your site and visit your blog. You will get to see your social icons adjacent to the blog posts.

6. Adding Social Sharing Icons-

You will now have to add social sharing links to our blog posts. You will be using the Shack Article Sharing extension from Joomlashack.

Then, Download and install Shack Article Sharing. Go to Extensions, followed by Plugins and then to the Content option- finally Shack Article Sharing Pro option. Enable the plugin and click the "General Options" tab within the plugin. Go to the "Blog" category option in the "Categories for social buttons" tab. When you view your blog post now, you can see those links for sharing your posts on social media.

7. Organize Your Blogging Structure and Process-

Now that your blog is ready, it's time to get organized. The Shack Editorial Calendar extension offers you a robust calendar in which you can create, plan, and edit content and keep track of your publishing schedule and history.

Shack Editorial Calendar comes with an easy-to-read calendar view. If you want to schedule content, drag-and-drop the article to your chosen day.

Shack Editorial Calendar allows you to create pieces/ articles/content from the calendar directly. Click on the article icon, and you add new pieces. Shack Editorial Calendar will enable you to edit article-pieces straight from the calendar. Click on any article of your choice, and you can update the essential details.
